Yesterday, the third floor of Ham Smith was a'buzz with talk of the blizzard that was supposed to hit today. Maybe more than a foot of snow overnight. Surely they'll cancel classes for a foot of snow, right?
I hate to admit that I was hoping for the same thing. I often feel like a bad teacher when I'm happy that my class gets cancelled, but teachers need a snow day too, right?
So you imagine my disappointment when I woke up around 4 this morning and it wasn't even snowing. When I actually got out of bed at 7:45 it was snowing. sort of. There was maybe a new half inch to an inch of snow. Ugh. On the crazy chance that they cancelled classes anyway, I called the Storm Hotline.
Cancelled.
CANCELLED!
They cancelled everything as of 4 this morning. I think it's more of a preemptive sort of deal because we're supposed to get a ton of snow. I don't much care about the reason. The result is this: As long as I have power (our power tends to go out when we get a bunch of snow or ice), I'm going to make either pizza or popcorn and comment on students' embodied rhetorical analysis drafts. Woo-hoo! Look at me go crazy with my snow day!
I know, but it'll be good to sort of catch up. I don't think I can do all 19 today -- I did 17 on Sunday, remember, and it made my eyeballs hurt. But I'll try to do at least 10. Then I'll either plan the next 5-6 weeks of 503, or I'll start working on my CCCC presentation.
If I'm completely productive today, I'm going to reward myself by watching Curse of the Wererabbit again tonight. I just bought it used. Hooray!
If I lose power, then I can work on my laptop for four or five hours and I could probably read with one of my book lights (not fun, but do-able), and when I tire of that, Beej should be home and we can open a bottle of wine and play cards by candlelight, which would actually be a lovely Valentine's Day.
