Well, the weather was pretty awful, the crowds a bit disappointing, but my husband was amazing. I imagine he'd disagree, but I stand by my assesment.
I'll spare you the details and just give you the cliffnotes version:
This was the slowest Boston since 1977. The winner was 7 minutes slower than he was last year. The weather was pretty miserable. The runners were crammed into a tent for almost three hours before the start and Beej said that his shoes were absolutely soaked before he even got to the start line. There was no room to stretch even. He said you had to stand or squat in one place for hours in the cold. So he wasn't thrilled about that.
But the race was on and he came out of the gates on fire. He was on pace to run under three but he slowed down quite a bit in the last 7 miles or so. He would say he "unravelled." He lost about a minute a mile on average after that.
But he finished in 3:06, only two minutes slower than his personal best (on a lovely cool clear day ona flat course), which put him in the top 7% overall.
Let me say that again: TOP 7% OVERALL. So cool.
And, of course, he's fine. He didn't push himself too hard so nothing really hurts, nothing is too sore (except his hip which has been bothering him for months) and he could go for a run tomorrow, he says.
That's my husband. Pretty cool.
