Just one question

I got this one question meme from Deborah Hawhee. You're supposed to answer it without first looking at the previous person's answers. So, I've not yet looked at Deborah's responses, but will head back there as soon as I answer this myself.

Here's the question: What are the five things you do every day to contribute to your success?

This is a difficult question to answer because I'm not sure how to define "success". If we're talking academic success, I'm not sure I'm "successful" in that pursuit everyday, although I am sure there are practices that I do everyday that get me there. Anyway, I think I'm going to take success to mean academic, personal, and interpersonal because the last two greatly influence the first, and the first probably influences the latter. These are in no particular order.

1. Talk to my husband. If I don't talk to Beej at least once a day (and now that he's on day shifts that's much easier, but when he's on seconds and nights, we sometimes don't see each other for a few days) I feel out of sorts. I just need to say hi and hear him once a day in order for me to feel, I don't know, centered.
2. Talk to friends. Particularly Tim lately. He makes me laugh, listens to me complain, and then reminds me that I should be working.
3. Turn on my laptop. It's still so new and pretty, that the very sight of it makes me want to work--sort of.
4. Check my dissertation schedule. Both panic-inducing and motivating.
5. Check DBC to see what everyone else is doing. Again, good motivation.
