I also think it's interesting that the commentators noted the silent change of the government website, switching over from Bush to Obama. The changes that we (or I) rarely think about on a day like this.
There's a West Wing episode where Leo tells Bartlett, "You're going to open your mouth and lift houses off the ground. Whole houses, clear off the ground." This blog used to be about writing a dissertation -- although I'm not sure it was ever really about that. But now it's about my life as a brand new assistant professor, still hoping to lift whole houses off the ground. It's academy meets Ab.

Inauguration
It's too new, I think, for me to really comment in any substantive way, but let me say that I got a little choked up while watching the inauguration this morning. To have a real rhetor in that position again is inspiring. Obama, of course, is walking into an almost impossible situation. The economy, the war, and the expectations placed upon him -- it's going to be difficult, to say the least. And we can't know how he'll fare, not really. But we do know this: that man can give a speech! As a West Wing fan, I often wish we could elect Jed Bartlett. This might be close, at least in terms of his oratory skills.
