I'm starting to feel a bit better after two very rough days with this early semester cold. And this three day Labor Day weekend is coming at a good time, as it gives me a few days to recover. Happily, I don't yet have any grading AND I submitted my article draft to College English today, so that's off my plate for a little while. That means I can maybe spend a little time doing things like cleaning the bathrooms, doing laundry, and maybe even getting ahead in course prep. I also need to do more work on developing a unit on sexual orientation for our first-year writing course.
The cold aside, the first two weeks of the semester have actually been quite good. I've found myself really enjoying my students. The first-year students were a bit of a struggle the first two days as they started to acclimate to college life, but they seem to be getting the hang of it. They're lively, mostly engaged, bright, and interesting. I'm digging it. And the prospective teachers are also engaged, intelligent, and have great questions. So far, no complaints.
Well, one. It's been in the triple digits. I just don't have teaching clothes for weather this hot. But looks like it might start to cool down soon.
