There's a West Wing episode where Leo tells Bartlett, "You're going to open your mouth and lift houses off the ground. Whole houses, clear off the ground." This blog used to be about writing a dissertation -- although I'm not sure it was ever really about that. But now it's about my life as a brand new assistant professor, still hoping to lift whole houses off the ground. It's academy meets Ab.

Fun-tak
I'm just sitting in my office (working on revisions) and noticing just how many things are actually held up by "fun-tak." You know, that blue or yellow stuff you use to put up posters and such? It's pretty much everywhere in my office. Posters, pictures, a Wisconsin quarter stuck to my desk, notes, a pack of note-tabs in the shape of feet, a clothespin with a ladybug on it that someone gave me. EVERYTHING on my office door. Just strange how much my office is held together by fun-tak.
