what to do

In theory, this blog was about writing my dissertation. It didn't exactly turn out that way. For the most part, by the time I was done writing my dissertation for the day, I didn't much feel like writing about writing my dissertation. So this blog has certainly faltered at times. I wasn't really sure what to do with it, and my energy level tended to be pretty low while writing the dissertation. Most of my energy went into the dissertation itself.

But now that's done (or close enough -- it's being looked over for formatting and will soon be submitted, officially).

So the question is, what do I do with this blog?

I could, I suppose, just abandon it. And maybe that's what will end up happening. But right now I'm thinking maybe I'll blog about being an actual professor (assistant style).

It's a tricky thing, of course, because this is public blog and for a person without tenure, it can be a little, well, dangerous, I suppose. So we'll just have to see how that goes. I don't imagine myself complaining about my actual institution on a public blog -- that just seems like bad form, danger aside. That's just rude. But it might be interesting to talk about the transition from graduate student to assistant professor.

So that's the plan, at least for now. We'll see how it goes.

Right now i'm wearing my UNH GRAD STUDENT t-shirt. The transition? It might be difficult for me. I've been a graduate student for 8 years (yikes).

For now, my focus is on packing. My husband leaves on Tuesday; I leave about two weeks later. We're mostly packed, but not completely. Given that I can't really lift anything, I'm relying pretty heavily on the generosity of my friends. Since I wont' be able to repay them in kind, I'm planning to repay them in pizza and beer.

See? Still a grad student.
