There's a West Wing episode where Leo tells Bartlett, "You're going to open your mouth and lift houses off the ground. Whole houses, clear off the ground." This blog used to be about writing a dissertation -- although I'm not sure it was ever really about that. But now it's about my life as a brand new assistant professor, still hoping to lift whole houses off the ground. It's academy meets Ab.

Last Day of Class
I think my nearly complete absence form this blog speaks to the insane schedule of writing professors. It is, in fact, the last day of classes for me. I'm off to teach my last class in just a few minutes. We'll watch a quick movie clip, then they'll workshop. I have office hours today from 4-4:30 and one student might show up, then I have conferences on Monday with my 300 level class as their final essays aren't due until Wednesday. I'm hoping to get home tonight before the sun sets, as the roads are good right now, but won't be if they ice over. Winter break is almost upon us, and it already seems like it will be too short. I have a lot of reading, writing, and course planning to do. But, as I always say, if I can do that work in my pajamas, I call that exciting.
