Sorry for the radio silence lately, but moving is hectic. Here's the very brief update:
we made it.
There were harrowing moments on the three day U-haul trip, but we got here in tact, we didn't hit anybody, and so far only one thing seems to have broken (a picture frame).
Kansas is, perhaps more surprisingly than it should be to me, really quite beautiful. I was here in February for my campus visit and didn't get to see much of it in the daylight. What I had in mind is very far from what this place looks like, at least in the summer. It's very very green, hilly, and gorgeous. Big sky, big storms, and very hot. The last part I could do without, but as I keep reminding my brother, I'm simply not going to like everything about this place. He thinks I'll adjust, and I will, but probably not to the heat. I'm just not built for it.
We've been making some headway on our townhouse (which is darling, by the way). I really like where we live and I'll be very very happy to have it put together. The kitchen is almost done, the living room is 97% done. The bedrooms and office are in shambles, though. We'll try to get to those in the next few days, while Billy's still here to help us move the desk and such. It feels a little overwhelming, but I know it will get done.
I have discovered the joys of having a washer and dryer, and am very excited to say that I have no idea where the laudermat is. I did, however, happen upon a very cute little hipster bistro in Aggieville (the college town part of town) that had a Sunday brunch with live jazz and a decent frou-frou iced latte. excellent. Found the good chinese take-out, good wings, a good steak.
It's a bigger town than people give it credit for. I keep telling people that it's about 50,000 but people don't seem to think that's as big as it is. I know it's hardly huge, but we have a Target, a Panera, a Pizza Hut, and chinese take-out. ;) So it has everything a girl needs. Well, it has enough.
Anyway, we're off to eat something, then maybe to campus to try to get our bearings. I have to show up tomorrow to fill out paperwork and I don't want to get too lost. Cuz campus? It's HUGE. At least to me.
